“After eleven o’clock at -5 degrees”: Postwoman cancels tour due to high stress

No matter how uncomfortable or ‘terrifying’ the weather is – postal workers have to go out every day. Customer gratitude seems limited.

Especially in Germany, postal workers are often exposed to the frustration of dissatisfied customers. This is evident from a study by opinion research agency YouGov. 30 percent of Germans say they are annoyed because their package was delivered to their neighbor while they were at home. 27 percent say they did not receive a notification card if they were not at home, reports ‘Focus’.

“It would be nice to hear thank you.”

An affected postal worker from Germany now describes on Facebook what she has to deal with every day. User “Jenny Re” writes in the group “Parcel services and complaints – Hermes, DHL, DPD, Amazon, GLS, UPS”: “I often read that packages were not delivered until the next day because the tour was canceled or that letters were not ‘I don’t come to such and such day after day.’ She knows she chose the job herself, but she would like to hear a “thank you.” Because: The workload at work is high. Many citizens would underestimate this.

“I’ve been outside since six o’clock today (I run my tours) and it was minus five degrees all day.” After eleven o’clock she canceled her route. And this despite the fact that she still had to deliver three boxes of letters and parcels. But: “Everyone needs a break at some point.”

In no company everything goes perfectly; there are black sheep everywhere. The postman can also understand the annoyance if someone has waited a long time for the desired shipment. But she and her colleagues do everything they can to get the mail to customers on time.

“It’s just not possible to lie”

‘Jenny Re’ hopes: ‘Maybe my contribution will open some people’s eyes.’ The message is very well received by Facebook users. The postman gets a lot of praise. Someone writes: “Our regular postman is really great!”

But there are other voices: “It’s just not possible to lie,” writes one user. He is referring to notifications from the post office that ‘no one was home’ or that the ‘package has been delivered’.

One problem is the lack of staff, Klaus Gettwart of the German Association for Post, Information Technology and Telecommunications (DVPT) told the news portal “web.de”. This is one of the main reasons why many packages and letters do not reach their destination for a long time. As a result, quality is increasingly lost. (An)
