33,000 euros in two loaves: German police made this discovery in Irschenberg, Upper Bavaria.

Police in Upper Bavaria scored when they examined two pieces of bread during a check at the gas station along the Irschenberg highway. In it she found 33,000 euros – baked in!

The driver from Romania thought he could safely smuggle the amount past the officials in his Peugeot. None: Now the proud portion flows to the Bavarian treasury. Since 2022, it has been allowed in Bavaria to seize money that does not belong to a victim.

A million in the center console

In Oberaudorf, Bavaria, police caught an even bigger fish: they found gold worth almost a million euros in a Lexus A10. Police noticed the driver because she seemed nervous. She had hidden the 16.12 kilos of gold in the shape of a gold bar and countless pictures in the center console.

While checking a Fiat on the highway near Kufstein, police officers found 25 gold coins and numerous objects. The driver had put it in the tank of his car. Total value: 100,000 euros.

“Crime should not pay!”

In 2023, the responsible central and coordination office for asset recovery in Bavaria (ZKV) earned almost two million euros from such cases, ‘Bild’ reports. In 2021 that was only 613,000 euros.

ZKV boss Hildegard Bäumler-Hösl: “Crime should not be worth it!” In the past, the police had to return such money. Not anymore. “We are allowed to seize assets of unclear origin – that is, if they have no legal basis.” (no)
