In Germany, air passengers should be prepared for flight cancellations and delays this Thursday. The reason is a nationwide warning strike by the aviation security forces, which, according to information from the dpa, was called by the Verdi union. The Hessischer Rundfunk first reported on Tuesday. Verdi himself was initially unavailable for comment.
According to HR information, the union has called on the approximately 25,000 employees in the aviation security industry to stop work from early this morning. The strike should then last until midnight.
The employees work at the controls for passengers, baggage and staff. Without them, airport security zones cannot be operated. Air traffic will probably be paralyzed in large parts of Germany as a result.
The last time there were warning strikes in aviation security was in March last year. At issue was the working conditions of employees, who had achieved significant wage increases in recent years.
The union is demanding, among other things, higher salaries for employees. So far, no agreement has been reached in three rounds of negotiations. Further discussions are planned for next week. (SDA)
