These include sleep disorders, intestinal diseases and even circular hair loss. The number of reports of patients with alopecia is increasing.

Circular hair loss is an autoimmune disease. Triggers can be viruses, vaccinations and psychological stress. “There are a growing number of reports of the onset, exacerbation, and recurrence of alopecia after COVID-19,” says a report in the journal Jama Dermatology. South Korean researchers examined data from 260,000 Covid-infected people and 260,000 uninfected people. The result: Anyone who suffers from Covid has a six times greater risk of hair loss. And the risk of alopecia was also significantly increased.

Corona or pandemic stress?

Long-term consequences can include dementia and heart problems

Not much is yet known about the long-term consequences of corona infections. A study published in The Lancet in 2022 examined the effects on the brain. More than 1.2 million cases have been investigated. The conclusion: The risk of neurological and psychiatric diseases such as dementia is increased up to two years after Corona. In the first six months, the risk of dementia increases by 33 percent.

In the publication, scientists also warned of an increased risk of heart attack, cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure or sudden cardiac death – at least one year after the disease.
