Railroad strike has begun in Germany Concerns over AI falsifications in the election campaign: Biden’s voice calls on people to abstain from voting

Parts of the strike by the GDL train drivers’ union started in Germany on Tuesday evening. Deutsche Bahn’s freight transport has been on strike since Tuesday evening. From Wednesday morning it will also become uncomfortable for passengers.

After the start of the drivers’ strike in freight transport, Deutsche Bahn and its passengers prepared for the strike, which would be extended to passenger transport from Wednesday morning. Customers have already been able to view the emergency timetable for long-distance and regional transport online, the railway announced.

“Due to the limited supply, we recommend that you always reserve a seat early when traveling on DB’s long-distance services,” the railway announced on Tuesday. “In regional transport, there is a greatly reduced supply of train journeys during the GDL strike.”

The GDL had already started the strike in freight transport on Tuesday evening. The strike started there as planned at 6 p.m., a GDL spokesperson said when asked.

Deutsche Bahn announced that a number of freight trains were on strike and would not be able to reach their destinations. The GDL led by Claus Weselsky wants to shut down large parts of train traffic for about six days. It is the union’s fourth and longest strike to date.

The labor dispute is expected to last until Monday evening, making it the first time in the ongoing collective labor agreement dispute that covers an entire weekend. In addition to the financial demands, the collective bargaining dispute mainly revolves around the issue of the reduction of weekly working hours for shift workers. The GDL wants to reduce this from 38 to 35 hours and keep the salary the same.

The SBB announced on Monday that they are currently developing a replacement concept for the Swiss part of the route. The aim is to ensure that domestic traffic is not disrupted if possible.

The SBB advises postponing travel to or via Germany to another time. As part of a special goodwill gesture from Deutsche Bahn, travelers have the option to postpone their trip and use the ticket sooner or later. (sda/dpa)
