After mutual military attacks, Iran and Pakistan want to resume diplomatic relations.
The ambassadors will return on January 26, according to a press release from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry and a report from Iran’s Tasnim news agency on Monday. Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amirabdollahian will also visit Pakistan on January 29, the report said.
Pakistan withdrew its ambassador from Tehran after an Iranian missile attack on extremists on its territory. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad had also announced that the Iranian ambassador would not be allowed to return to Pakistan until further notice.
Groups of militant separatists are active in the border area of the two neighboring states and claim to be fighting for the rights of the Baloch ethnic minority. After last Thursday’s Iranian attacks, Pakistan attacked targets in Iran with missiles and drones. Pakistan said the attack targeted extremists in the border area. (sda/dpa)
