After the recent volcanic eruption in southwestern Iceland, the famous Blue Lagoon has reopened. During the weekend, guests could again book appointments and go swimming. The reopening will take place in collaboration with the local authorities, according to the thermal baths’ website. The lagoon was temporarily closed again due to a new volcanic eruption in the southwest of the island.
The renewed eruption in a volcanic area southwest of the capital Reykjavik started a week ago. During the second volcanic eruption at Grindavík within four weeks, red-hot lava engulfed and destroyed homes in Iceland for the first time in half a century.
Grindavík is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland, where five volcanic eruptions have occurred since 2021. The city’s approximately 4,000 residents were evacuated. The situation has calmed down in recent days. According to broadcaster RUV, there were temporary problems with the power supply in the city last weekend. (SDA)
