To commemorate the deadly gun attack a month ago, the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague reopened its doors for a day. Dean Eva Leheckova spoke Sunday about an important step for all students and teachers to come to terms with what happened. The psychologists also recommended a quick return.

Shortly before Christmas on December 21, university student David K.* (24) shot 13 people in a university building in Prague’s Old Town and then committed suicide. One injured person later died in hospital. 24 people were injured in the attack.

The main location of the shooting remains closed

According to police reports, the gunman had already randomly killed a man and his two-month-old daughter in a Prague suburb on December 15. Shortly before the attack on Charles University, he also murdered his father in the home they shared. Nothing is known so far about the shooter’s motives.

According to Leheckova’s deputy Martin Pehal, lectures, a book exchange and art events were planned for Sunday. Participants in a workshop could, among other things, make a memorial using the wax from candles left behind by mourners after the gun attack on the university. Meanwhile, black curtains blocked access to the upper floors.

According to Dean Leheckova, lectures will resume on February 19. The fourth floor, the main location of the rampage, will remain closed for the time being. (SDA)
