Two hospital workers were shot dead at a hospital in the American city of Dallas, Texas. The suspect was shot dead by police and taken to another hospital with unknown injuries.

Police say the suspect is a 30-year-old man with a criminal record. He was currently on probation, having previously been convicted of violent theft. The man wore an electronic tag.

The Dallas police chief tweeted about a “terrifying failure of the criminal justice system”:

The motive for the shooting is still unclear. It was also not disclosed what the function of the killed hospital workers was. According to local authorities, the incident happened near the delivery room.

Dallas Hospital, Methodist Health System, is “heartbroken” at the loss of two “beloved team members,” it said in a statement. “Our entire organization mourns this unimaginable tragedy.”

According to the hospital, following the arrest of the suspect, there is no threat and the patients and staff are safe.
