It happened on Friday evening around 5:15 pm: a 12-year-old boy was on a sled in a forest near Hardenberg Castle in Velbert, Germany.
According to the fire brigade, he went off the track and ended up in the brush – a fatal mistake: a branch about three inches thick pierced his body. The fire brigade speaks of an ‘impiling injury’.
According to “Bild”, the branch protruded from the groin area into the boy’s abdomen. The emergency services and fire brigade are alerted and provide the child with medical care, alleviate the injury and secure the branch from further movement.
The boy is then taken away on a barn basket stretcher over a distance of 120 meters. A field ambulance is ready to take the boy to the rescue helicopter.
Accompanied by his father, the injured man was flown to a hospital in Cologne for further treatment. (neo)
