Door was broken: Passenger was locked in the toilet during the flight

It is normal that it can get tight while flying. However, for a SpiceJet passenger, the word ‘lack of space’ took on a new meaning. Instead of sitting in his booked seat, he spent almost the entire flight in the toilet.

As Indian media first reported, the man was on a flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore) on Tuesday. Once the plane was in the air, he had to go to the bathroom. After he had done his business, the shock came: he was stuck in the cabin.

“On January 16, a passenger became stuck in the toilet for approximately an hour due to a door lock malfunction,” the airline said in a statement. SpiceJet further emphasizes, “Our crew provided the passenger with advice and support throughout the journey.”

“Don’t panic, we’ll land in a few minutes.”

When the crew members realized they couldn’t free the man from the toilet without help, they came up with an inventive idea. They pushed a piece of paper through the door for him. It said:

“Sir, we tried our best to open the door, but we couldn’t. Don’t panic, we’re landing in a few minutes, so close the lid, sit on it and strap yourself in. As soon as the main door is opened, a technician will arrive. Do not panic.”

Only after the plane landed in Bengaluru, India, the passenger was freed by two technicians. He subsequently received medical treatment. The airline reimbursed him for his plane ticket as compensation. (Mrs)
