According to the Japanese space agency Jaxa, the unmanned Japanese mini-spacecraft Slim has apparently landed on the moon.
“On the screen it looks like Slim has landed on the moon,” Jaxa employee Shin Toriumi said during a live broadcast on Saturday morning (local time). The status is under review, he added.
Two missions had previously failed. In the new attempt, Slim was supposed to land precisely in a crater on Earth’s satellite after a twenty-minute landing.
The landing is a major triumph for the Japanese space agency. So far, only the US, the Soviet Union, China and India have managed to land on the moon. (man)
