Pope Francis (87) is ill again. He announced on Friday during a reception in the Vatican that he was suffering from mild bronchitis, an inflammation of the airways.
“I have a problem, a bit of bronchitis,” said the leader of more than 1.4 billion Catholics. Francis spoke in a broken voice during his appearance. The Pope, who has been in power since 2013, has been increasingly concerned about his health for some time.
At the beginning of December, Francis had to cancel his participation in the COP28 world climate conference in Dubai. He also had to forego several other public appearances. According to the Vatican, the Argentina native was also suffering from bronchitis at the time. On several occasions he had speeches delivered by other high-ranking clergymen. Last year, the Pope was admitted twice to a clinic in Rome, including open abdominal surgery. (SDA)
