Four dead already: snowstorms and tornadoes cause chaos in the US

At least four people have died due to the weather, the New York Times wrote on Tuesday evening (local time). The American broadcaster CNN also reported at least four deaths as a result of storms in the American states of Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina.

According to CNN, there were freezing temperatures in large parts of the country. On the East Coast, nearly 500,000 households and businesses were without power on Tuesday evening, the website Poweroutage.us reports. Accordingly, approximately 166,000 consumers were affected in New York State alone, and another 130,000 in southern Pennsylvania. According to the New York Times, nearly 2,000 migrants – including families with children – were taken from a tent camp in the Brooklyn borough to a safe shelter in the New York City area ahead of expected heavy rain and wind. Flood warnings were in effect in several states in the eastern United States.

According to the National Weather Service’s assessment early Wednesday, the weather turbulence will continue at least until Friday. The snowstorms on the US West Coast are likely to move further inland, bringing very low temperatures.
