He traded a life of wealth and security for war! 28-year-old Connor Kennedy, great-nephew of John F. Kennedy (1917-1963), claims to have served in the Ukrainian army for a while. On Instagram he reports on his time in the Ukraine war and how he was able to support the troops in the fight against the Russians.
“Like many others, I have been deeply moved by what has happened in Ukraine over the past year. I wanted to help.” For example, Conor Kennedy immediately registered at the embassy when he heard that there was an international legion in Ukraine.
He only told one person in the US where he was going and only one person in Ukraine knew his real name. “I didn’t want my family or friends to worry, and I didn’t want to be treated differently there.”
He learned fast
However, the inexperienced Kennedy offspring were not sent into battle at first. “I was not a good marksman and had no military experience, but I could carry heavy things and learned quickly,” he says. He would then have been sent to the northeast front to help. “I was ready to die.”
According to his post, he had not been in Ukraine very long, but had “seen and felt a lot” in a short time. He would have liked to be a soldier. “The reward for finding the courage to do good is significant.”
“Every day someone there sacrifices everything for a lasting peace”
Why he left the front faster than his comrades in arms remains unclear. But he would travel to Ukraine again and go back to the front to support the Ukrainians.
He is glad he had this experience. “The people I met were the bravest I’ve ever met.” His fellow legionaries, who come from different backgrounds, backgrounds and ideologies, are “true freedom fighters”.
At the end of his post, Kennedy makes a prognosis: “This war will determine the fate of democracy in this century.” He concludes his report with an appeal to support Ukraine. “Every day someone there sacrifices everything for a lasting peace. You can’t ask them to act alone.” (babe)
