Democrats on the US House of Representatives Audit Committee published a 156-page report on Thursday showing that Trump’s hotels and properties made at least $7.8 million in payments during his presidency. at least 20 countries have registered. , including from local governments and state-controlled companies. The majority of the payments – more than five million dollars – came from China, including from the Chinese embassy in the US and the Chinese state bank ICBC.
“These countries often spent heavily on apartments and hotel stays at Donald Trump’s properties and personally enriched President Trump as he made foreign policy decisions related to their political agenda and had far-reaching consequences for the United States,” the report said . It contains a detailed breakdown of individual countries’ payments to Trump’s properties and hotels. In addition to donations from China and some larger amounts in the six-figure range from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, small amounts of less than $10,000 from other countries are also reported.
The report is based on documents from an accounting firm that long worked for Trump’s companies. The committee fought for the documents to be made public in long-standing legal disputes. However, this effort was halted after the transition of power in the House of Representatives, when Trump’s Republicans took control there.
The top Democrat on the audit committee, Jamie Raskin, complained that the documents released so far only provide insight into a few payments – from two years of the Trump presidency and into four of his companies. The $7.8 million was “almost certainly just a fraction of Trump’s harvest of illegal foreign government money.”
Trump wants to run for the Republicans again in the next American presidential elections in early November. He is currently well ahead of the Republican presidential candidates in the polls.
