McDonald’s Malaysia sues Israeli boycott movement for millions SpaceX launches mysterious US military drone into space

Fast food company McDonald’s Malaysia has denounced the boycott movement against Israel. He is seeking $1.3 million in damages from her in the Muslim-majority country over her calls to boycott allegedly pro-Israel businesses.

The civil lawsuit against Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia aims to “protect our rights and interests in accordance with the law,” the company said on Friday.

According to the statement of claim, obtained by news agency AFP, McDonald’s is seeking six million ringgit in damages from BDS Malaysia for alleged defamation. BDS Malaysia “categorically” rejected the allegations on the online service X, formerly Twitter.

The company is neutral

McDonald’s said it “neither supports nor tolerates” the current conflict in the Middle East. “While we understand and respect that the boycott action is an individual decision, we believe it should be based on facts and not false allegations,” the company statement said.

In response to Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, BDS Malaysia has increasingly called on people in the Muslim-majority country to boycott Western brands such as McDonald’s, KFC and Zara. BDS accuses the companies of being “complicit in Israeli atrocities against Palestinians.”

According to her self-image, the BDS movement is against the state of Israel. The organization, founded in 2005 by Palestinian activists, calls for an economic, cultural and academic boycott of Israel over its occupation policies in the West Bank.

More than 20,000 dead

The war between Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist organization by the EU and the US, has now been going on for almost three months. The reason was an unprecedented attack by Hamas on October 7, in which hundreds of fighters entered Israel and committed atrocities there. According to Israeli information, about 1,140 people were killed and about 250 others taken hostage in the Gaza Strip.

Israel subsequently announced the destruction of Hamas and has since been attacking targets in the Gaza Strip in a large-scale military campaign. More than 21,500 people have been killed so far, according to information from the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry, which cannot be independently verified. (sda/afp)
