After hail in Germany: mass accident involving 14 cars, killing people

One person was killed in a serious accident on the A31. As the Münster police told the AFP news agency, a massive pile-up took place at the Borken intersection in Münsterland in the direction of Emden on Friday evening around 11 p.m., involving a total of 14 vehicles. According to current findings, weather conditions were the cause of the accident.

According to police reports, the road was quickly covered with ice after a heavy hailstorm. The accident killed a 53-year-old woman and injured two other people, one seriously. Thirteen cars and a truck were involved in the accident.

The A31 was still closed between Reken and Gescher/Coesfeld on Saturday morning. According to police, rescue efforts are expected to last until noon. The exact course of the accident and the cause are still being investigated, police said. (zis/AFP)
