Thousands of Russians have already lost their lives in the war in Ukraine. While the general population fears for the lives of their relatives at the front, the rich and famous in Moscow let things get spoiled.
Shortly before Christmas, the “Almost Naked” party took place at the Moscow nightclub Mutabor. The guests appeared almost completely naked and wore see-through tops or pants. The images went viral and caused a furore among Russian proponents of the war and among Kremlin supporters. Now there are heavy fines.
Rapper Vacio, who appeared to be wearing only a sock, must spend 15 days in prison and pay a fine of more than 1,800 francs. High-ranking politicians are calling for further consequences for those present at the party.
Sergei Mironov (70), chairman of the ‘Fair Russia’ party and ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin (71), commented on the party on Telegram. “Your actions cannot be described as anything other than treason. They have betrayed their country and their people, and it is time to be held accountable for that,” the hardliner shot at the participants.
Joining the party was “a betrayal of those who are now sacrificing their blood for the Fatherland,” Mironov continued. “Let them receive the punishment they deserve. They should simply be deprived of everything: titles, prizes, concerts, appearances and advertising contracts.”
Apparently the party is already having its first consequences. Advertising contracts were terminated and concerts were canceled. Party organizer Nastya Ivleeva, actually the face of a mobile phone provider, was removed from all advertisements. In addition, several stars – including one of Russia’s most successful singers, Filipp Kirkorov (56) – were axed from the pre-recorded TV New Year’s Eve shows.
Police are currently investigating whether illegal drugs were involved at the party and whether there were violations of LGBTQ regulations. LGBTQ movements are banned by law in Russia and subject to severe penalties.
Iwleewa, who partied in a bra and expensive jewelry, is also facing legal troubles. According to the BBC, a class action lawsuit was filed against them with a demand to donate a billion rubles (over 9 million francs) to the organization ‘Defenders of the Fatherland’.
The event venue also had to pay for the party: shortly after Christmas, the authorities locked down the Mutabor club. Official reason: some of the alcohol was “sold without permission” and “hygiene standards were not met.”
According to RBC, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov (56) refused to comment further on the scandal at a press conference. Peskov told reporters that he “would not discuss this event.”
