On Sunday, demonstrators tried to storm Belgrade City Hall.

Several thousand supporters of the Serbian opposition demonstrated in Belgrade on Sunday evening against alleged fraud in the local elections a week ago. It was the seventh protest in a row. This time, the participants of the rally marched to the Belgrade City Hall, which they tried to enter by force. Police used tear gas against demonstrators, local media reported.

The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of President Aleksandar Vucic (53) won victories in early parliamentary elections and local elections in many cities, including Belgrade. However, their success was narrow in the capital on December 17. According to the opposition, this too had only been achieved through massive fraud.

Vucic denies election fraud

Election observers and the media reported numerous irregularities. Buses are said to have taken people from the Serbian part of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Belgrade Arena, where they cast votes without being entitled to vote.

Vucic denied allegations of election fraud on Sunday. The Serbian Public Prosecution Service announced in Belgrade on Saturday evening that several violations of electoral rules had been reported, including the activities in the Belgrade Arena. (SDA)
