A young woman practices an unusual activity in Australia.

While other young women are blowing their travel budgets in restaurants, behind bars or as flight attendants, two Tiktokers have opted for an unusual job. They work in various Australian mines and provide housing for the workers there. “I made £11,000 from a job that no one wants,” says one of the influencers on her Tiktok account serendipidadetravels. The mines are so remote that workers have to be flown in. In her videos she reports on the ups and downs of this bizarre job, far away from civilization.

Her working day starts at six in the morning. First, the young woman in the video collects the workers’ laundry, filmed against a picturesque sunset. Then we start cleaning the kitchen from breakfast. “We clean all rooms from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.” In the afternoon, supplies must be replenished and waste emptied. The working day ends at 6 p.m. with preparing dinner and assisting the chef with serving it.

“The money is so easy to earn”

At first she was afraid of the job, as the travel fanatic explains in another video. Because: Working on a mine site involves a desolate environment and flights to remote areas. However, she soon realized how much money she could make maintaining the shelters. “The money was so easy to make, and I still get room and board.”

Although the travel bloggers in the Tiktok video do their work relaxed and appear in a beautiful atmosphere, the work is still not always easy. Because the women work from morning to evening, they are exhausted in the evening. And: there is “absolutely nothing” to see outside the mine.

Yet young women also benefit from the isolation: they can concentrate better on exercise and healthy eating – and sometimes even exercise is possible after a full 12-hour day. (An)
