Streaming instead of Disney World: Family mixes vouchers for $10,000

Disney+ vouchers instead of Disney World gift cards. An American family faces this momentous confusion.

$10,000. The parents of American Andie Coston (41) repeatedly bought Disney vouchers for this amount. They wanted to make the whole family happy and give all 16 children and grandchildren a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. To make the trip affordable for the family members, they repeatedly purchased vouchers.

However, the elderly couple didn’t realize they had spent $10,000 on the wrong gift cards, NBC Chicago reports. The gift cards were for the Disney+ streaming service and not for the theme park.

You can watch Disney for 70 years

“Yes. We have access to $10,000 worth of Disney+,” Coston says in a video on Tiktok. “That’s enough for over 70 years of Disney+.” They don’t have an option to stream at all.

The trip to Orlando was actually planned for 2020, says the woman from the state of Illinois. However, due to the pandemic, they decided to postpone the trip until Christmas 2023.

“My mother is devastated”

In the video, the desperate Tiktoker asks her followers for tips on how to redeem the Disney+ gift cards for theme park ticket vouchers before all the tickets are gone. “We leave in six days, there aren’t many tickets left,” said the 41-year-old. “My mom is devastated, my dad is frustrated and the kids are worried we won’t make it to Disney World.”

The family’s story immediately went viral. However, there was little understanding in the comment columns. The basic tenor: the cards are written so clearly that an error is immediately noticeable. In a second video, the Tiktoker defended himself. Her parents are already 78 and are not familiar with streaming services and the different logos. She is also surprised that it is even possible to buy so many Disney+ vouchers at the same time.

But a happy ending nonetheless

After all, the Disney drama also created understanding at the entertainment company. Disney contacted the retirees and offered to exchange the Disney+ vouchers for gift cards to the Orlando park. “I’m glad the case is over,” Coston said.

The American hopes that the same will not happen to other elderly people in the future. “Perhaps the design can be distinguished even more clearly,” she suggests. (An)
