Nine people were killed in a shooting in a poor neighborhood in South Africa on Saturday evening. The victims are five men and four women. According to police, a group of Sesotho-speaking people opened fire on a Xhosa-speaking group. Both languages are Bantu languages.
According to sabcnews.com, the attackers attacked their victims in a courtyard in Boitekong near Rustenburg in North West Province while they were partying and drinking alcohol. Eight people died on the spot, another in hospital. Eight other people were injured.
Police Lieutenant General Sello Kwena said the motive was still unclear. No arrests have been made yet. The Provincial Commissioner has strongly condemned this senseless act and assured that the police will work tirelessly to bring justice to the victims. (GF)
