A gigantic mega-construction is quietly and secretly being built on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg (39) is said to be behind the project. No one working on this project is allowed to talk about what they are building. They are all said to have signed strict confidentiality agreements before being awarded the contract.
“This is a fight club. “We don’t talk about Fight Club,” a man involved in the work tells Wired. Anyone who spills the beans, takes pictures or tells friends is living dangerously. Apparently some employees have already been fired for not adhering to the confidentiality agreement.
Monitoring employees should not be an easy task. After all, the construction site is anything but small. According to ‘Wired’, the site will cover approximately 1,400 hectares. Several buildings will be built there, with a total of 30 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms.
According to ‘Wired’, at the center are two villas with multiple elevators, offices, meeting rooms and a commercial kitchen. In addition, a tunnel will connect the two villas, which will also lead to an underground bunker. A gigantic bomb shelter with an explosion-proof door. In the event of an emergency, Zuckerberg must have everything he needs in the 5,000 square meters. There must also be an escape hatch to allow for a quiet and secret escape.
If you believe the plans that ‘Wired’ could see, Zuckerberg plans for the facility to be self-sustaining. This means: own water supply including pumping system, livestock farming and agriculture.
Tree houses will be built for Zuckerberg’s guests, connected by rope bridges. According to the report, the total cost of land and buildings is expected to be at least $270 million.
The whole project is so big that the island has changed. No wonder: a construction site like this requires a lot of people.
And the islanders feel that too. Suddenly there was a lot more going on, more cars on the street, more unrest. That also brings work and money to Kauai. But it is precisely the islanders who live near the construction site who are bothered by Zuckerberg.
Suddenly high fences were built blocking the view of the sea. His aggressive purchasing approach in particular attracted criticism when he started purchasing several properties in 2014. In the meantime, the metabas is trying to make good agreements with the residents. For example in the form of donations. To date, more than $20 million has flowed to local projects on the island.
