In the Netherlands, a rapid increase in explosive attacks in the criminal environment is causing problems for the population. As the public broadcaster NOS reported on Saturday, citing the police, the number of explosions and arsons on houses, business premises and cars has risen to 622 this year. Last year, according to previous information, there were 325 attacks.
Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague were the most affected, a police spokesperson told the ANP news agency. It’s about drugs, intimidation and blackmail. Explosives are even used in relationship disputes.
The explosives or incendiary devices placed at the entrance to houses, facades or shops at night cause material damage and usually no one is injured. Residents of affected neighborhoods feel downright terrorized, NOS reports. The mayor of Vlaardingen, where more explosions occurred, declared war on the bombers. Police action will be further intensified. “We will not give up until this stops.” (SDA)
