After a failed offensive, recapture is no longer the goal: now the Ukrainians want to kill as many Russians as possible

The Ukrainians no longer have any scruples.

One thing is clear: the counter-offensive that Ukraine launched this summer has failed. After great disillusionment has spread and there is even talk of stopping the offensive, the troops of Volodymyr Selensky (45) now seem to have set themselves new – bloody – goals.

As “Bild” reports, the focus is no longer on recapturing the areas. Their plan instead: kill as many Putin soldiers as possible. “Our goal is to have the kill ratio as positive as possible,” said an officer in an interview with “Bild”.

“We strive for maximum enemy losses”

Instead of defending the current front line, the Ukrainians are relying on a brutal killing strategy.

During the heavy fighting, our own soldiers must be spared as much as possible. “If it is 10 to 1 in our favor, we continue; if it is 1 to 1, we withdraw,” the officer explains.

But why are the Ukrainians taking such radical action now? “Now there is no pressure to push, so we just aim for maximum enemy losses,” reports one soldier. The positions are irrelevant – the important thing is that most Ukrainians stay alive.

Minefield designed to take down the Russians

According to a former Western military official who has advised Ukraine in recent years, the Ukrainian armed forces are creating a minefield in which to destroy as many Russians and Russian tanks as possible.

This is a controlled rearguard action. “Once they get through there, you withdraw one kilometer and let the Russians drive into the next minefield that has already been constructed,” said the advisor, who wished to remain anonymous.

Ukraine wants to achieve a culmination point at which the Russian offensive collapses.

And how long do Zelensky’s forces plan to use this brutal strategy? The expert knows for sure: as long as the Russians are so superior to the Ukrainian armed forces in numbers and material, the Ukrainians will not concentrate on holding or recapturing areas.

If “game-changer weapons” were to suddenly appear at the front, Ukraine could probably turn things around again. (dzc)
