Older generations often face major hurdles when looking for a job. HR manager Thomas Liedtke (59) told Blick that he applied for 250 jobs – and only received rejections. Trained chef Volker Joh (59) also received more than thirty rejections within six weeks.
An entrepreneur (61) from South Tyrol does it differently. Roberto Brazzale and his brothers are the seventh generation to run one of Italy’s oldest dairy companies. In one branch of Brazzale AG it was decided to only employ people over the age of 60. Brazzale thinks: “Today’s 60-year-olds are the new 40-year-olds.” The entrepreneur was not satisfied with employees between the ages of 20 and 30. “I am disappointed in the young people, but the older ones are full of energy,” he tells Südtirol News.
However, Brazzale does not want to be seen as a hero. For him, older employees are valuable employees. “For me it’s not about doing a good deed. “They are all professionals with many skills that we would not find anywhere else,” he tells the newspaper. He also emphasizes that his employees are not people who are “waiting to retire,” but rather people who are “in the middle of their working lives, are true professionals in their field, have strong communication skills and have the desire to have a to take on the challenge. new challenge.”
The Italian also maintains long-standing personal relationships with many of his employees of the same age. “I discovered that some friends and acquaintances my age were unhappy with their jobs and wanted change,” says Brazzale. Ultimately, he took over his former school colleagues Ugo, Alessandro and Sonia in the company. He jokes: “When we were kids, Sonia and I skipped school together. Nowadays she takes care of the administration and the warehouse.”
The entrepreneur does not regret his decision to hire people his own age. “Welcoming you to the company was the best decision I could have made.” Because even though conflicts arise at work, they are quickly forgotten. «Thanks to old friendships you manage to overcome tensions. By the time you get to the coffee maker, the world will be back to normal.” (Mrs)
