Hundreds of bombs rain on the Gaza Strip every day. Some of them are said to have been dropped by the Israeli army without any specific target. This information comes from American intelligence services.

The national intelligence report, detailed to CNN by three sources, shows that about 40 to 45 percent of the air-to-ground munitions used by Israel were unguided. The rest was precision-guided munitions, the report said.

“I am very surprised and concerned”

Unguided bombs generally pose a greater danger than precisely deployed weapons, especially in densely populated areas such as the Gaza Strip. When it comes to unexploded bombs, Israel uses a tactic known as “dive bombing.” The ammunition is dropped by a fighter jet in a steep flight.

According to military experts, the frequency with which Israel uses these unexploded bombs could have a major impact on the number of civilian casualties, CNN writes.

“I am extremely surprised and concerned,” Brian Castner, a former bomb squad officer, told CNN. The weapons and strategy advisor further explained: “It’s bad enough to drop precision weapons, but if they’re not precisely controlled, it’s a huge problem for the civilian population.”

Marc Garlasco, a former military analyst and United Nations war crimes investigator, adds: “There are so many variables to consider with unguided munitions, which can lead to incredibly different accuracy from one moment to the next.”

Growing rift between Israel and the US

Israeli actions in Gaza also pose major challenges to the US government. The US has recently repeatedly criticized the way Israel is carrying out its offensive in the Gaza Strip. President Joe Biden, 80, said on Tuesday that Israel had “indiscriminately bombed” the Gaza Strip. He also warned that international support for the country was waning. They now want to talk to Israel about how to prevent further civilian deaths.

When asked about the intelligence report, an Israeli army spokesman said: “We do not comment on the weapons used.” However, he emphasized that his country adheres to international agreements. “As a military committed to international law and a code of moral conduct, we use resources to minimize harm to the civilian population.” Israel emphasizes once again that Hamas uses people as shields. “This war is against the Hamas fighters – and not against the people of the Gaza Strip.”

The primary goal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (68) is the destruction of Hamas. He compared his troops’ operation to denazification in the 20th century.
