Only 35 years old: the deputy head of Putin’s favorite newspaper is dead

Anna Tsareva complained of high fever before her death.

Anna Tsarewa (†35) writes to a colleague in Moscow: “I have taken my medicine, I am going to bed.” A short time later the 35-year-old was dead.

She worked for six years at the Kremlin-affiliated newspaper ‘Komsomolskaya Pravda’, considered one of Vladimir Putin’s (71) favorite newspapers. Tsarewa was deputy boss there and – until last Sunday – was responsible for the online presence. In the afternoon she calls her parents and tells them that she is not feeling well and has a fever.

The next day, her father finds her body in their apartment. She stopped responding to messages and calls. The circumstances of her death are mysterious: there is no evidence of a burglary and nothing points to a violent death, according to Tass.

Worked continuously since the start of the war

In the days before her death, she reportedly complained of a respiratory illness, the newspaper reported in an obituary for her colleague. In September, she posted on Facebook that she had not had a single day off since the start of the war.

According to Russian media, authorities are currently assuming a “sudden cardiac arrest”. It is striking, however, that Tsarewa’s boss died just a year ago under similar mysterious circumstances.

According to official information, Vladimir Sungorkin (†68) died of heart failure, but marks indicating asphyxiation were found on his body. Sungorkin was considered one of Russia’s top propagandists, which landed him on the EU sanctions list. The EU found him “responsible for supporting actions and policies that undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.”

Shortly before his death, Sungorkin, the then editor-in-chief, fainted during a trip with colleagues, as one of them reported. Vladimir suddenly started gasping for air. We took him to fresh air, but he was already unconscious. Nothing helped.” (neo)
