After more than two months of war in the Gaza Strip, “there are signs that the Hamas system is falling apart,” says Israeli Chief of General Staff Herzi Halewi (55). “Surrender – now,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (74) appealed to Hamas terrorists on Sunday.
Photos show dozens of Palestinian militants who have surrendered to Israeli forces and laid down their weapons in recent days. There are now increasing signs that Palestinians are turning against their Hamas rulers.
During an interrogation, a former Hamas minister expressed unprecedented criticism of Hamas leader Jahia Sinwar (61) and the leadership of the radical Islamists. Sinwar (61), the underground leader of the terrorist group in the Gaza Strip, is being hunted by Israel as a ‘walking dead man’, a ‘living dead man’ whose days are numbered. Former Hamas Communications Minister Yousef al-Mansi now describes his former associates as “crazy people” who are “destroying Gaza.”
Israel’s domestic secret service Shin Bet released video footage of Al-Mansi’s interrogation on Sunday. “They destroyed the Gaza Strip,” al-Mansi says of Hamas. “You are putting the Gaza Strip back in time 200 years.” Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are now openly saying, al-Mansi said in the 14-minute video, “that Sinwar and his group have destroyed us, we must get rid of them.”
Israeli propaganda? Al-Mansi does not give the impression that he is forced to make the statements. In a calm voice he says: “I have not seen anyone in the Gaza Strip supporting Sinwar. Nobody likes Sinwar. There are people who pray day and night to God to free us from him.”
The Hamas attacks on October 7 were “the opposite of Islam,” the former minister said. “This is heresy, madness. What they have done is unacceptable from logic, religion or reason. Sinwar and his group are responsible for this.”
The Arab media, which has so far firmly represented the Hamas line, is also exposing uncomfortable truths. On Friday, an elderly woman in Gaza risked her life by telling an Al Jazeera reporter that Hamas was transporting its aid packages in tunnels. “Everything goes to their houses,” said the angry woman.
A young Palestinian mother with her baby in her arms told a journalist, “The world is sending us humanitarian aid, but I swear to God we are not getting anything.”
The British Mail on Sunday also reports from the Gaza Strip that Palestinians accuse Hamas of plundering entire neighborhoods that have been evacuated since the outbreak of the war.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoaw Galant (65) accuses Hamas of “capitalizing” on the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. He also refers to reports from people trapped in Gaza that Hamas is stealing food and aid.
“This is a collision course between civilisations,” the Defense Secretary told the Daily Mail. He calls Hamas propaganda, which spreads worldwide through universities and intellectuals, “a medieval phenomenon.” Israel “is fighting on the front lines of the free world,” Galant said. Israel has thwarted hundreds of terrorist attacks in Europe in recent years.
