Austrian mother and child fall eight meters from ski lift Germany extends controls at the Swiss border – by no less than two months

In a serious accident with a chairlift in Austria on Friday, a mother and her son fell eight meters into the depths. The four-seater chair in which the Austrian woman was sitting with her son and husband suddenly slid backwards for an unknown reason and hit the empty seat behind it, the Tyrolean State Police reported. The accident happened in Schwendau in the Zillertal.

The father (41), also Austrian, was able to hold on, but the 38-year-old mother and eleven-year-old son fell into the snowy space under the elevator. The woman suffered serious injuries to her back and pelvis. The son and husband were also injured, but police provided no further information about them. The family was taken to the hospital in Innsbruck by rescue helicopter. The chairlift is no longer active for the time being. (sda/dpa)
