In the comparison of climate protection countries, Switzerland again missed the top 20. Criminals drug and rob homosexuals

In the comparison of countries in terms of climate protection in 2023, Switzerland ranks 21st. Compared to last year, Switzerland managed to improve one place in the ranking of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), but again missed out on the top 20.

Switzerland mainly earned its poor marks because of the low share of renewable energy in the energy mix and because of its national climate policy, the environmental protection organization WWF announced on Friday. This means that Switzerland has also ended up behind India and the EU average, among other things.

Swiss politicians have no ideas about how to achieve these goals, as shown by the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2024. The Swiss goals are fundamentally clear. The country wants to halve its emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels and be climate neutral by 2050.

“Switzerland has signed the Paris Climate Agreement and is committed to it,” the Federal Office for the Environment (Bafu) said when asked by Keystone-SDA. “We follow the recommendations of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The measures to achieve these goals are laid down in the CO2 law, which is currently being discussed in parliament.”

Denmark is once again the leading country in the rankings this year. At the bottom of the ranking are the major oil and gas producers Saudi Arabia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

The ranking was carried out by the NGOs Germanwatch, Newclimate Institute and the Climate Action Network. The CCPI assesses the climate protection efforts of 63 countries plus the European Union. All were among the largest emitters, responsible for 90 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, the report said. The four categories of greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energies, energy consumption and climate policy were evaluated. (saw/sda)
