The shock at college in Las Vegas is still deep. A man killed three people in a shooting on Wednesday.

As has now become known, according to police reports, the man had previously applied to various universities without success. “We know he has applied to multiple colleges in Nevada many times and has been rejected each time,” Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Police Department said Thursday.

As ABC reports, he applied to become a college professor at the University of Nevada but was rejected. Las Vegas is located in the American state of Nevada and is known for its casinos.

“Unknown white powder substance”

McMahill said P. had a list of people he was looking for on the college campus, as well as faculty at another university. “We also know that the suspect was in financial difficulties.” During a search of his apartment, investigators found an eviction notice on the front door. Moreover, a kind of will was deposited there.

The morning before the crime, P. went to a post office and sent 22 letters without a return address to various university employees across the country, McMahill said. “The first letter we opened contained an unknown white powdery substance.” The envelopes are currently still being examined. The sheriff urged caution if other education employees received letters without a return address.

There have been repeated mass shootings in the US

McMahill said the shooter fired a nine-millimeter handgun and brought 11 magazines to the scene. He acquired the weapon legally in 2022. The university emphasized that university students were not the target of the attack.

In the US, disasters and deadly shootings are unfortunately part of everyday life. Firearms are easily available there and widely distributed. Deadly attacks with many victims regularly shake the country – for example at schools, supermarkets, nightclubs or at major events. Calls for stricter gun laws regularly fail. (SDA/DCZ)
