A group gathered around jailed Kremlin opponent Alexei Navalny wants to launch a campaign against Putin.

The Russian people are expected to elect a new president in March next year. In view of this, Kremlin opponents around the jailed Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny (47) have now started a campaign against head of state Vladimir Putin (71).

‘Russia without Putin’ is the name of the campaign in which citizens must vote for any candidate, but not for the incumbent Putin. The team working in exile abroad made this known on Thursday. In Russia, there are always disagreements in opposition circles over whether an election boycott or Navalny’s line promises more success in expressing dissatisfaction with Putin.

The majority of Russians do not want Putin at the top

All citizens would be called upon to convince other opponents of Putin to go to the polls in the next 100 days. The Kremlin’s opponents also launched a website explaining how to vote. The elections are a parody. “People are thinking about who is in power and why,” Navalny’s team said.

The main task of the opposition and honest citizens is to dispel these doubts and make it clear to people that Putin is harming the country. “For Putin, the 2024 elections are a referendum on his actions, on the war,” the appeal said. The majority of Russians do not want to see Putin at the head of the country. “The voting results will be falsified, but our job is to make it clear to everyone that Russia no longer needs Putin.”

Navalny’s team also released a video of a large billboard placed in Putin’s hometown of St. Petersburg. It has the inscription “Russia”, congratulations on the New Year and a QR code. Anyone who downloads the code on their mobile phone will be redirected to the opposition page entitled: ‘Russia without Putin’. (SDA)
