Flight EK421 was en route from Perth to Dubai on Monday when the captain warned of turbulence over loudspeakers – seconds later the Airbus A380 was violently shaken.

Anyone who didn’t buckle up quickly enough was thrown from their seat and some passengers hit their heads on the ceiling. Photos show how the formwork was damaged.

Hair is stuck in the housing

The crew was about to serve the food. Loose pieces of luggage, plates and drinks flew through the cabin. A passenger writes on X: “The pilot announced turbulence and we had to sit down. A second later I and other passengers flew to the ceiling. Now you can see my hair in the crack. She posts a photo on the platform showing her black hair stuck in the shattered casing.

Another passenger wrote: “Me and @lunars_magic had the worst return flight from Perth to Dubai. We really thought that was the end when we hit the ceiling twice and then hit the floor.”

He posts a photo of himself in the hospital with his head fixed. Apparently he broke a vertebra in his neck! He further writes that the turbulence occurred “out of the blue.” The warning came far too late. His companion wrote: “I would like to thank the cabin crew for doing their best in this situation and the paramedics for their help. It was very frightening for everyone, it even crossed my mind at that moment if I was going to die. I hope the other injured recover quickly.”

One passenger had to be given oxygen

According to the Aviation Herald, the injured on board received first aid from crew members and passengers with a medical background. One passenger had to be given oxygen.

According to Emirates, the plane was caught in the sudden squalls of a storm over the Indian Ocean at an altitude of 11,500 metres.

The airline said: “We can confirm that flight EK421 from Perth to Dubai briefly experienced unexpected in-flight turbulence on December 4.”

According to the airline, 14 people were examined by medical staff both on the plane and after the Airbus A380 landed around 4:45 a.m. local time. The aircraft remained on the ground and was inspected for damage.
