Flagrant case in France: teenager (15) kills parents and sets house on fire

A murder investigation has been opened against a 15-year-old French man who was arrested after two bodies were found in a burnt-out house. The teenager repeated his confession, including intent, to the examining magistrate and was taken into custody, prosecutor Eric Vaillant said Monday.

The teenager was under suspicion on Saturday since the discovery of the “almost completely charred” bodies, believed to be his parents according to the Public Prosecution Service, and was held in the juvenile department of a detention center. He is also under investigation for the destruction of the family home in the small village of Châteauvilain, between Grenoble and Lyon, by arson.

The examining magistrate will order “a psychiatric and psychological report to better understand the suspect’s personality and assess his criminal responsibility,” the public prosecutor said.

The family’s house in the town of Châteauvilain, with a population of 800, burned down on Monday night. Two bodies were found in the rubble, which also had gunshot wounds. The teenager, born in 2008, initially disappeared after the fire. He was arrested in Montpellier on Saturday. He was described as “normal, without history” and very well integrated into the village.

A brother who was two years older had left home on the eve of the tragedy to go to his study place.
