Dozens dead after landslide in Tanzania fears host will irritate climate conference, boost for nuclear power plants – day four of COP28

Dozens are feared dead following a landslide on Tanzania’s fourth highest mountain, Mount Hanang, according to local media reports. The television channel Jambo TV reported at least 47 dead and 85 injured. A huge landslide hit the town of Katesh in the early morning hours. Houses were torn away and a road was interrupted, complicating rescue efforts.

The Tanzanian Red Cross released images of the area of ​​about 10,000 residents where a river of mud half-buried cars. People tried to move their belongings to safety from destroyed homes.

The landslide on the 3,420 meter high Mount Hanang was preceded by heavy rain.
