In Dubai: US Vice President Harris criticizes disinformation about the climate crisis. Inheriting is more lucrative for new billionaires than working yourself

The World Climate Conference is currently taking place in Dubai. During her speech, the US vice president criticized disinformation from heads of state.

During her appearance at the World Climate Conference in Dubai, US Vice President Kamala Harris criticized leaders who spread misleading information about the climate crisis. There are leading politicians who deny climate science, delay climate protection and spread disinformation, Harris said on Saturday at the World Climate Conference in Dubai. “Given their resistance and in the context of this moment, we must do more.”

Former President Donald Trump, who is running for president again, withdrew from the 2015 Paris climate protection treaty early in his term and is considered a denier of man-made global warming. scientifically proven.

Humanity has arrived at a crucial moment, Harris warned. “Our collective actions – or worse, our inaction – will impact billions of people for decades to come.”

Harris made no comment on the fossil fuel exit, which is one of the biggest points of contention at the climate conference. According to its own statements, the US is the largest oil producer in the world.

The US announces stricter rules against climate-damaging methane

The US also wants to make progress in reducing emissions of climate-damaging methane. Climate advisor Ali Zaidi to US President Biden and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced new standards on Saturday at the World Climate Conference in Dubai that require oil and gas producers to plug methane leaks. In addition, boreholes need to be better monitored so that unwanted gas leaks can be prevented.

The second most important greenhouse gas, methane, escapes during the extraction of coal, oil and natural gas. Although it remains in the atmosphere for a shorter time, it is more harmful than CO2. With these measures, the US aims to prevent the emission of an estimated 58 million tons of methane by 2038 – which, according to information, is equivalent to 1.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide. Two years ago, the US and the EU launched an international initiative to jointly tackle the methane problem. More than 150 countries have now joined. (sda/dpa)
