Shameful dismissal in Paraguay! Arnaldo Chamorro (43) unexpectedly resigned on Wednesday as chief of staff at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. It had previously become known that he had signed an agreement with representatives of a fictitious country, the British ‘Times’ reported, among others.
The fake nation calls itself the ‘United States of Kailasa’ (USK) and is ruled by a fugitive, self-styled Indian guru named Nithyananda (45). Nithyananda has been wanted in India since 2019 for various crimes, including sexual assault. His whereabouts are unknown.
Despite its own claims to the contrary, the “United States of Kailasa” is not recognized as a nation by the United Nations. Nevertheless, Nithyananda and his followers managed to entrap several officials in Paraguay, including Chamorro.
Particularly embarrassing: the agreement signed by Chamorro appeared on social media. The document contained recommendations to establish diplomatic relations with the USK. It also called for “support for the declaration of Kailasa as a sovereign and independent state in various international organizations, including the United Nations.”
Photos posted on Kailasa’s social media accounts show representatives of the fictional country signing agreements with local leaders of the María Antonia and Karpai communities.
Chamorro sheepishly admitted in a radio interview that he had no idea where Kailasa was when he signed the agreement. Regardless, he signed the document because Kailasa promised to support Paraguay on several issues, including soil irrigation.
On its website, the fictional country describes itself as an “ancient, enlightened, Hindu civilization nation being revived by oppressed Hindus around the world.” Nithyananda is the rightful “ruler of 19 ancient Hindu kingdoms”. The fake country even has its own online encyclopedia based on “Wikipedia” called “Nithyanandapedia”. Kailasa occupies no physical territory.
This is not the first time that USK representatives have tried to deceive. According to the Guardian, they attempted to participate in a United Nations meeting in Geneva early this year. Their goal: to make agreements with local politicians from Canada and the US. (no)
