His arms are heavily bandaged. He is finally safe. With a serious expression, Mohammad Nazal tells how he was mistreated in prison in Israel. It is said that soldiers beat him again and again. The result: multiple fractures to his hands. After that, he didn’t even receive medical care. That’s how he was left, the Palestinian says on television. The Red Cross only treated him later.
Nazal was taken from Israeli prison as part of an exchange. In return, the terrorist group Hamas has been releasing hostages every day since Friday. In return, about three times as many Palestinian prisoners will be released. This is part of an agreement that also includes a ceasefire.
Nazal’s descriptions sound cruel. But there are doubts about his story. Because: Footage taken immediately after his release from prison shows Nazal boarding a bus. He uses his arms, without facial expressions contorted in pain or other signs of broken hands. The Palestinian looks fit.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry, for example, is correspondingly skeptical. X reads: “Video footage shows Mohammed Nazal leaving prison and boarding a bus with two fully functional arms.”
Others also doubt Nazal’s story. One comment reads: “This is a perfect example of Pallywood.” Pallywood is referring to staged propaganda videos intended to show how much Palestinians are suffering under Israel. It’s a combination of Hollywood and Palestine.
