Yakushima Island is located south of Japan’s southernmost main island, Kyushu. Japan’s coast guard said remains of the plane had been found. Three soldiers were found in the evening (local time) – no information about their condition has yet been released.

As recently as August, an Osprey military plane crashed in northern Australia. At least three US Marines were killed. In total there were 23 people on board. The Boeing MV-22B Osprey crashed over Melville Island, north of Darwin, during a military exercise. (AFP)
