Nikki Haley (51) wants to go to the White House – and has to get past Donald Trump (77). Now their campaign is getting new impetus.
The influential organization Americans for Prosperity, founded by billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, expressed its support for the former US ambassador to the United Nations on Tuesday. This means the 51-year-old will receive significant organizational and financial help, which could give her further tailwinds.
Haley announced her presidential bid in February. At first it was considered fairly hopeless, with poll numbers in the low single digit range. In recent weeks, however, she has made significant gains in the polls, overtaking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who at the start of the race was considered former President Donald Trump’s most promising internal rival. Trump is far ahead of the Republican field of candidates.
Incumbent President Joe Biden is running for a new term on behalf of the Democrats. To become a presidential candidate, candidates must first win in their own party’s primaries, which begin in January. The actual presidential elections will take place in early November 2024.
The statement from the organization Americans for Prosperity, which has significant financial resources and a large network across the country, said Trump and Biden are only continuing the political downward spiral. “Moreover, a clear majority of voters want someone new.” Haley is best positioned to beat Trump in the primaries, then beat Biden and open a new political chapter for the country.
The strictly conservative Koch brothers had made a fortune with an empire of oil pipelines, cattle ranches, paper and fertilizer manufacturers and technology companies. They used their money to influence US politics for decades. They pumped large sums of money into political movements, conservative Republican candidates and think tanks to strengthen the right-wing fringe in the US.
