Nine children, four women and one Russian-Israeli citizen: With the fourteen hostages released on Sunday, the number of people returning during the ceasefire between Israel and the radical Islamist Hamas rises to a total of 58.

Numerous hostages were released on Friday and Saturday. For example, Aviv Asher (2), Raz Asher (4) and Doran Katz Asher (34), who were among the first to be released.

Now more prisoners were released on Sunday. This is what is known about the 14 freedmen:

Abigail (4)

Little Abigail saw her parents murdered in Kibbutz Kfar Aza during the attack by Hamas fighters on October 7. The girl managed to escape to her neighbors, the Brodetz family, with whom she was held hostage. Her siblings Michael and Amalya escaped the attack, hiding in a closet.

Following her release, Abigail’s relatives confirmed in a statement released by the Hostages’ Families Forum that the girl had returned safely. However, they asked for time and to respect the privacy of Abigail, who has American citizenship in addition to Israeli citizenship. “Abigail no longer has parents, but she has an entire country that embraces her,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hagar Brodetz and her children were kidnapped in Kfar Aza, along with Abigail, who had fled to them. Her husband, Avihai Brodetz, said he tried to defend the kibbutz when Hamas fighters kidnapped his family. It was only days later that he discovered that his wife, children and Abigail were still alive. Daughter Ofri was taken hostage on her tenth birthday. Ofri’s brothers are eight and four years old.

Elma Avraham (84)

“There’s a terrorist in my house!” Artist Elma Avraham was on the phone with a neighbor when armed men entered her home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz. After her release, Avraham was immediately taken by helicopter to a southern Israeli hospital. She is in intensive care and her life is in danger, the clinic said.

Aviva seal (62)

Aviva Siegel was kidnapped from her home on Kibbutz Kfar Aza with her 64-year-old husband Keith, who remains held hostage. Aviva, a teacher, was born in South Africa and moved to Israel when she was eight. She and Keith have four children and five grandchildren.

Chen Almog-Goldstein (48) and her three children

The social worker was abducted from her home in Kfar Aza along with three of her four children, Agam (17), Gal (11) and Tal (9). Father Nadav Goldstein and eldest sister Jam were killed in the Hamas attack. They are relatives of Doron Almog, a former senior military officer and now chairman of the Jewish Agency for Immigration to Israel.

Ela (8) and her sister Dafna (15)

Ela and Dafna were kidnapped from the home of their father Noam Eliakim in Kibbutz Nahal Oz. The day after the attack, her mother Maajan Zin saw a photo of Dafna on the online messaging service WhatsApp, “sitting in her pajamas on a mattress in Gaza, with the comment ‘It would be better in prayer clothes’.” The bodies of the girls’ father, his partner Dikla and their son were found riddled with bullets in an empty lot.

Ron Krivoy (25)

Krivoy worked as a sound engineer at the music festival that was attacked by Hamas militants. Krivoy was initially able to escape and hide in a ditch, his sister Yulia told Israeli media. During lunch, someone answered calls on his phone in Arabic.

The Russian-Israeli citizen will be released outside the agreement with Israel and in response to “the efforts of President Vladimir Putin and in recognition of Russia’s position in support of the Palestinian cause,” Hamas said. (zis/AFP)
