Israel and Hamas gave a ‘positive response’ to the extension of the truce

Israel and an Islamist group Hamas they gave a “positive response” to the proposal of Egypt and Qatar to extend the ceasefire in Gaza stripand this would mean an extension for another four days “under the same conditions”, an Egyptian security source told EFE.

A senior source said on condition of anonymity that the proposal was “close to final approval” and called for a four-day extension of the truce, during which Hamas would release another 40 Israeli hostages and Israel would release “more Palestinian prisoners in their prisons.”

The ceasefire extension would also be implemented to facilitate the entry of more humanitarian aid and fuel into the entire Gaza Strip, according to the informant, who indicated that “all sides confirm their desire to extend the ceasefire”.

The source noted that both Egypt and Qatar held “intense contacts” on Saturday and Sunday in coordination with the United States to “reassure” Israel and Hamas.

He also indicated that Israel would be willing to accept the proposal because “intense family pressure” of hostages in the hands of Hamas to which the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is subjected.

Thanks to the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States, Israel and Hamas They reached an agreement this week to exchange a total of 50 hostages for 150 prisoners during the four-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which began on Friday and continues unabated despite a delay in the release yesterday.

The ceasefire can be extended for additional days if Hamas commits to handing over at least ten prisoners per day, according to an agreement between the parties.

This Sunday Egypt said it Hamas will release 13 Israeli hostages during today, while Israel will release 39 Palestinian prisoners from its prisons, confirming that the truce “continues without obstacles for the third day”.
