As part of the agreement between the Israeli government and the Islamist Hamas, another 42 Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli prisons on Saturday. This was reported by Israeli media, citing the country’s prison authorities. Accordingly, those affected will first be transferred to Ofer Prison in the West Bank for medical examination by International Red Cross staff.
The condition for their release is that the Israeli hostages are freed from Hamas violence in the Gaza Strip, the report said. After their release, Palestinians must return to the places where they previously lived, such as the West Bank or East Jerusalem.

On Friday, 39 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons were released in exchange for 12 Israeli hostages, after a ceasefire lasting at least four days took effect. Furthermore, regardless of the agreement between Israel and Hamas, eleven foreigners were released from hostage by Islamists in the Gaza Strip.
Both sides had previously agreed to a ceasefire of up to ten days. Part of the deal includes an exchange of up to 100 hostages from Israel for up to 300 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons. The female and young prisoners are accused of throwing firebombs, arson and knife attacks, among other things. (sda/dpa)
