Floods in the Dominican Republic: the number of victims continues to rise Fighting and sirens before the ceasefire in Gaza – the night update without photos

After flooding caused by heavy rains in the Dominican Republic last weekend, the death toll has risen to 30, according to media reports. More than 7,400 apartments and houses were damaged and 22 destroyed, as the newspaper “Diario Libre” and other media reported on Thursday, including reference to new figures from the civil protection organization COE. More than 37,000 people had to leave their homes and seek safety.

Last Saturday, rain caused part of a wall along a street in the capital Santo Domingo to fall on several cars. There were floods in several parts of the Caribbean country. President Luis Abinader spoke of the heaviest rainfall in the history of the country, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti and is popular with holidaymakers. He linked this to climate change during a press conference. (sda/dpa)
