Tom Gottmann (50) is a police officer with a special hobby. He searches for valuables in nature with a metal probe. He found what he was looking for in a field in Hohenlinden, Bavaria: at the end of October he discovered a ring of real gold underground! ‘Georg 25/4/64’ was engraved there. It soon became clear to Gottmann: it was a lost wedding ring. He goes looking for the owner.

According to “Merkur” he found the first clue in the civil registry archives. Almost 60 years ago, Georg Hupfauer and Anna Seisenberger actually got married on the engraved date. But then the trail is lost. However, Gottmann cannot let go of the matter. Giving the 585 gold ring to the lost property office is out of the question for him – because the ring would only be kept there.

No information about Anna Seisenberger

The police officer is certain that the jewelry belongs to a woman who lived in Hohenlinden or the surrounding area. She probably lost her wedding ring on the property. “Neither her current nor her previous address could be traced, and therefore not whether she could still be alive,” said the hobby treasure hunter. He believes he has reached a dead end.

But Gottmann’s wife knows a woman named Gabi Hupfauer who lives in Hohenlinden. “Gabi’s husband Robert remembered that his mother had once lost her wedding ring,” says the finder. He manages to find the owner – albeit under a new name.

Lived in Austria

The woman (82) tells Gottmann that she lost the ring in the field fifty years ago. There she desperately searched for the ring, but could not find it. The police officer hears that her husband Georg died in 1974 at the age of 42. Anna subsequently married again, took a different name and moved to Austria with the children.

The fact that Robert returned to Hohenlinden and was able to find the owner of the ring is pure luck. The owner is moved to tears when she hears that her wedding ring has been found. On the phone she tells Ebersberger Zeitung that she cannot believe she is so lucky. (jwg)
