Then he got out of breath: a Danish truck driver lost control of his vehicle after a violent coughing fit. This led to a serious accident on a highway in the German state of Lower Saxony. Six cars were damaged and four people were slightly injured.
The 58-year-old’s truck skidded, hitting two cars and hitting several trees. The semi-trailer only came to a stop on a grass verge next to the highway, a police spokesperson told a T-Online reporter.
Three other cars were also damaged by debris strewn across the road. The coughing truck driver and three occupants of the affected cars were only slightly injured.
The accident took place on the German A1 between Wildeshausen-West and Wildeshausen-Nord towards Bremen. The highway had to be closed for several hours due to the rescue and clean-up work. It was only accessible again on Wednesday morning. (jl)
