Found dead in an accident after a massive search, partially flooded car: four young men die during a camping trip

The weather was terrible, locals are quoted by the English media. Four young men – one was 16, one was 18 and two were 17 – are believed to have returned from their camping trip to Snowdonia National Park in north-west Wales on Monday.

But none of the four contacted friends or family. The boys were also quiet on WhatsApp. Search teams, including mountain rescues, were deployed. On Tuesday, police confirmed their worst fears when four bodies were recovered from a silver Ford Fiesta.

The car was apparently thrown down a “winding, narrow and steep” road. The police speak of a “tragic accident”. The vehicle overturned on its roof and stood in the water. According to police, the victims died in the “partially flooded” car.

“The weather is too bad to be outside”

The teens were not experienced campers and had only basic equipment, including a tent and sleeping bags. They were last seen on Sunday morning.

“It has been extremely wet and the rivers have been extremely high in recent days,” said councilor June Jones. «It’s obviously November, the weather is bad. The weather is too bad to go out, especially with someone who doesn’t know the roads very well.”

The emergency call about a possible accident came in at 10:08 am on Tuesday morning. Rescue workers were deployed in a large contingent: an operations manager and two ambulances and two helicopters with teams. All help came too late. (kes)
