Ukraine reports successes on the left bank of the Dnipro – the night update without photos Fan dies at Taylor Swift’s concert in Rio de Janeiro – now the singer responds

According to its own statements, the Ukrainian army is establishing itself in the disputed Kherson region, southeast of the Dnipro River. “The armed forces continue to take positions on the left bank of the Dnipro in the Kherson region,” the general staff said on Facebook on Sunday evening. The spokeswoman for the southern command post, Natalya Humenyuk, had earlier said that the Ukrainian army had now pushed the Russians three to eight kilometers away from the river on the left bank, which until recently was fully occupied. International observers had also recently reported the progress of the Ukrainians in the area.

Kherson in southern Ukraine was largely occupied shortly after the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022. In November last year, the Ukrainian army managed to liberate parts of the area on the right bank of the river, including the regional capital of the same name Kherson. The Russians continued to occupy the places on the left bank of the river.

Zelensky fires the head of the army’s medical department

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky fired the former head of the army’s medical department. Major General Tetyana Ostashchenko’s position will be taken over by Anatoly Kasmirchuk in the future, Zelensky said in his evening video address. Kasmirchuk previously headed the national military hospital in Kiev. “A fundamentally new level of medical support is needed for our military,” the head of state added. He initially did not explain the decision in further detail.

Ostashchenko was appointed commander of the Command of the Medical Forces of the Ukrainian Army in 2021 – before the start of the war. She was the first woman to hold this position. Recently, however, there have apparently been increasing complaints from military doctors and paramedics about their work.
